If you have not saw the Old Navy ad that has twitter trolls up in arms- here it is along with a few disgusting tweets that further remind me that racism probably is not going anywhere anytime soon.
I hear claims that racism no longer exists.
Obviously those claims are made by people who have never experienced it themselves (a white person .. Or a few black celebrities that I will not mention today)
Racist people trolling on twitter or instagram is nothing new, it's just sad that people think that they can hide behind a social media platform while they spew hatred for someone just because of their skin color.
Interracial families are something we all see everyday and I definitely applaud Old Navy for mixing things up in their industry because I believe it is the only way to make things as equal as possible.
On the other hand, there will always be a bigot who thinks they are better than the next person because of X.Y.Z..
In a few hundred years maybe things will be totally different, but no time soon. For as long as we live there will always be a racist fool popping up with an idiotic statement about a person based on their skin tone.
I'm not one of those people who thinks that we will all sit around a campfire in harmony because there is always a troll lurking.
There has been a huge amount of people who have responded with love in response to the Old Navy ad. Which is wonderful and quite the relief, but honestly it feels like racism is getting worse now that Obama is on his way out and all of these trump supporters are screaming "Make America Great Again" for all of the wrong reasons...As if people of color took something away that belonged to them.
I know it's not any worse.. It's just not as noticeable to some, until this type of stuff happens. Then there is no denying it.
Did you appreciate Old Navy's ad?
I like the ad because it's a realistic blended family - I mean c'mon that's not his kid... but it is very realistic that a white man would be with a black woman who already had a son. They're probably just randomly chosen models but still I very much appreciate Old Navy's effort to bring diversity to their ads.
